Your $100 cologne fades by lunchtime. Your buddy's $15 Afnan lasts until bedtime. What gives? Here are the five real reasons your cologne isn't lasting.
1. Dry Skin
The #1 longevity killer. Dry skin has nothing for fragrance molecules to cling to. They evaporate almost immediately. Fix: apply unscented moisturizer to spray areas before applying cologne. This single step can double your longevity.
2. Wrong Concentration
EDT concentrations (5-15% oils) inherently last less than EDP (15-20%) or Parfum (20-30%). If longevity matters, buy the higher concentration. Sauvage EDT lasts 6-7 hours; Sauvage EDP lasts 10+.
3. Nose Blindness
Your cologne might be lasting fine โ you just can't smell it anymore. After 30-60 minutes, your brain stops registering your own scent. Ask someone near you if they can still smell it before blaming the fragrance.
4. Spraying Wrong Spots
Spraying wrists and rubbing them together destroys top notes. Spraying hair drys it out. The best spots: sides of neck, chest, and inner elbows. Let it air dry naturally.
5. Bad Storage
Heat, light, and humidity degrade fragrance. If your bottle lives in a sunny bathroom, it's literally cooking. Store in a cool, dark drawer or closet.
